I did a full face of Poundland makeup and some products amazed me

I decided to put Poundland's makeup range to the test and the results left me amazed.

A trip to Poundland is always a triumph, with plenty of good value products to stock up on from food and clothes, to beauty and more.

Its ‘Makeup Gallery’ range has been around since 2014, and includes everyday essentials for a range of different makeup looks.

After testing out makeup from Aldi and Primark and being pretty impressed, I thought it was time to give Poundland a go.

I bought seven products in total which cost me £9, with every product costing £1 apart from the foundation.

The makeup

Keep On Glowing illuminating foundation

The one thing that stood out to me about this foundation was the feeling it gave my skin, it was really refreshing. It had a menthol tingle to it, making it almost feel like skincare, which is quite rare for foundation as sometimes it can feel quite heavy.

The foundation is described as having a ‘light’ coverage and aims to be ‘illuminating’ to give your skin a nice glow.

It definitely gave my skin a glow but, for me, the coverage was far too light and it didn’t really give me what I wanted.

For those who prefer a light coverage foundation that blends in easily to your skin, I’d recommend this foundation since it’s a total bargain.

If it was thicker, I would’ve absolutely loved this product.

Smoothly Does It pressed powder

I was thoroughly impressed with this powder, it mattified my skin perfectly but didn’t make it look cakey in the slightest.

I often find that some powders can collect on certain areas of my face and look a little messy, but this one didn’t at all.

It was the absolute perfect shade and although I wasn’t particularly keen on the foundation, the powder worked really well with it.

This product also worked great under my eyes to set my concealer and set my foundation well, giving my skin a dewy but ever so slightly matte look.

For £1, I’d basically buy this powder in bulk, it may be small but it’s definitely mighty.

All About The Shadow eyeshadow quad

Another small but mighty product was the Poundland Makeup Gallery eyeshadow quad, which was pretty good.

I didn’t really have high hopes for the eyeshadow, considering it was only £1 and didn’t exactly look impressive in its packaging.

But oh how wrong I was! The 'Nude Glow' eyeshadow quad I went for featured a shimmery gold shade, to warmer brown tones and a dusky pink.

The eyeshadow quad was seriously impressive for the price (Emily Sleight/ Liverpool ECHO)

The gold was highly pigmented and worked really well with the brown tone after blending them together.

I will admit, the eyeshadow wasn’t the most pigmented I’ve ever used but it was still decent, it blended really well.

This particular eyeshadow quad would be perfect for a day to night look, which is why I’m giving it a 5/5.

Feeling Blush duo blusher

Warning: this blush is quite pink, so if you’re not a fan of a bold blush, you might not like this product.

I may have gone a little overboard when applying it, but I still think it gave my cheeks a gorgeous shimmery pink look.

The duo blusher seemed to do two jobs in one and act as a highlighter as well.

It blended in really well to the foundation and the powder and gave the makeup look a nice, soft finish.

Pro eye liquid eyeliner

Being a big liquid eyeliner fan, I’m afraid to say I really wasn’t impressed with the Poundland liquid eyeliner.

Granted, it was only £1, so I didn’t expect it to work miracles but after trying the other products, I had high hopes.

The brush didn’t really work for me as it was wobbly and not firm, which made it really difficult to get the winged eyeliner perfect.

For those who aren’t too bothered about winged eyeliner, this could work as a nice thin liner, but nothing thick in my opinion.

I had to keep layering the eyeliner over and over for it to appear bold and black, as there were a lot of gaps.

This could be because the eyeliner wasn’t very thick, or maybe it’s just not designed for a flick.

The bomb waterproof mascara

This mascara definitely wasn’t ‘the bomb’ - in my opinion, it actually didn’t really do much at all.

It was almost as if it had dried up, as when I applied it to my lashes nothing really happened.

Granted, if you layered it on with loads of coats it could definitely work, but you don’t really want to have to spend too much time faffing with a product to get the desired look.

Makeup Gallery blonde brow gel

A little really does go a long way with this product and I was pleasantly surprised at how much this brow gel worked!

As I applied it to my brows, it felt quite dry in consistency, but the product was really quite bold and effective.

For £1, this brow product is definitely just as good as some of the other more expensive brands I've used, which is really impressive.

Don't be put off by the consistency, because this stuff is magic.

The verdict

The ‘Makeup Gallery’ Poundland makeup definitely has some amazing products and the fact most of them are £1 makes it even better.

To me, items like the blusher and the powder were no different to some more expensive products I’ve owned in the past.

I’ve never thought about purchasing makeup from Poundland before but I’m definitely going to use it for some staple items.

This whole face of makeup cost just £8, which is the same price as some drugstore foundations!
