'I'd be very surprised' - Rio Ferdinand makes Harry Kane prediction amid Man United interest

Rio Ferdinand has admitted he'd be "very surprised" if officials at Manchester United weren't already planning to make a move for Harry Kane in the summer.

Though United have made vast improvements under the guidance of Erik ten Hag this season, launching a genuine Premier League title challenge and competing with neighbours Manchester City is beyond them at present. The club are looking to change that in the transfer window, though, and look likely to invest once again in order to get them to the next level.

An elite-level striker to bring much-needed goals to the side is the biggest priority - as well as a midfielder and a right-back - and Tottenham talisman Kane is the prime target. MEN Sport understands that Ten Hag has made the England captain his ideal addition, though Victor Osimhen, Goncalo Ramos, Mohammed Kudus, Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund are also on the radar.

United come up against Kane on Thursday night as they return to north London following Sunday's narrow win at Wembley to take on a flailing Spurs. Ferdinand is on punditry duty for BT Sport ahead of the game and believes United will already have a plan in mind to bring Kane to Old Trafford.

"If there aren’t conversations going on in the corridors of power at Manchester United here and Mr. Daniel Levy here about this man, I’d be very surprised," the former centre-back said.

Though United want Kane, it's understood they're reluctant to become embroiled in a saga for his signature.

Sources say United do not want to get involved in Spurs chairman Levy's games, such is his propensity to drag out negotiations for deals involving Tottenham players.
