'I couldn't go to the airport because...': Rishabh Pant opens up about his post-accident challenges

NEW DELHI: Dashing Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant revealed his reluctance to visit the airport following his life-threatening injury, apprehensive about facing people while being wheelchair-bound.

The 26-year-old sustained multiple injuries in a near-fatal car crash on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in December 2022.

"The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up after it, I wasn't even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me," Pant said on ‘Dhawan Karenge,’ a talk show hosted by India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

The horrific accident required Pant to undergo major knee surgery and an extensive rehabilitation process.

Reflecting on his ordeal, Pant shared, "I couldn't go to the airport because I was nervous about facing people in a wheelchair. I couldn't even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I suffered unbearable pain."

Despite the challenges, Pant made a remarkable comeback to action after 14 months, showcasing glimpses of his devastating best in the recently concluded IPL. His resilience and determination have been a source of inspiration, highlighting his journey from a harrowing accident to returning to the cricket field.
