'I compared McDonald's and Burger King's new burgers - one was restaurant standard'

If you find yourself craving a burger, you may have a go-to takeaway you rely on - it might be McDonald's, it may well be Burger King. And if it's a chicken burger you're after, then both fast-food giants have you covered, as they've brought out very similar burgers in the same week... the McCrispy and the Memphis Crispy Chicken.

I decided that it was my moral duty to go and try them both to help you decide which one you should spend your hard-earned cash on - and I was really surprised by my favourite.

So, the burgers, whilst being wildly different, do share a few similarities. McDonald's are promising 100% chicken breast fillet with the McCrispy, which has been marinated in black pepper and cayenne. It's topped with McDonald's classic mayonnaise, with added cracked black pepper and a savoury roasted chicken flavour.

Meanwhile, Burger King's Memphis Crispy Chicken offering features a chicken breast, sandwiched between crispy bacon slices, melted American cheese, three golden onion rings, creamy mayo, and Burger King’s signature smoky BBQ sauce, all served in a toasted brioche bun - sounds good, right?

Having already tried the McCrispy, in my head I'd almost, rather unfairly, dismissed the BK burger already. I thought nothing could top the new Maccies offering. After being pleasantly surprised that the McCrispy had knocked the Chicken Legend off the top spot (out with the old, and in with the new) I thought that the reigning chicken burger of all takeaways had to be the McCrispy - but was I wrong?

The McDonald's burger next to the Burger King one...but which one did I prefer? (Danielle Kate Wroe)

I purchased the Burger King burger first and was quite shocked at the price - £6.99 for a burger on its own seems quite steep to me, so the expectations bar was raised significantly. Then, I headed to competitor McDonald's. After waiting in a queue for a good 10 minutes I was handed my £5.29 McCrispy and was ready to taste. After receiving some funny looks for having a Burger King bag in McD's (the rivalry is real!) I decided to go and enjoy my food at the concrete jungle that is Piccadilly Gardens.

I took a bite of the McCrispy - yes, it's still as delicious as the one I tried just last week at the launch event. Crispy, slightly spicy - but annoyingly still not enough mayo. If I'm not all chicken-burgered out after this, I might ask for extra mayo next time and maybe a little slice of cheese just to soften it up a bit. The bun is still the best offered in Maccies though, in my opinion.

I took a bite of the Memphis Crispy Chicken and was literally blown away. My jaw dropped (after I'd finished my mouthful, of course). What business does a takeaway burger have tasting this good?

Not to be dramatic but it's restaurant standard. If I was served this whilst out for dinner I wouldn't be mad in the slightest.

It's crispy, there's bacon, it's oh so saucy, the onion rings were yummy - it was literally elite.

I was not expecting to be this impressed by a Burger King burger. BK is one of those establishments that I usually only reluctantly frequent whilst at the airport, feeling rather groggy but just in the mood to eat anything.

I never thought I'd actually be going out of my way to go to Burger King - yet here we are. 2022 really is full of surprises.

Have you tried either of these burgers? Which one do you think you'd prefer? Let us know in the comments.
