'I can honestly say' - Bill Kenwright reacts to incredible Everton away end at Leicester

Bill Kenwright has labelled the actions of Everton's supporters as "humbling", praising them for their "inspirational role" in recent performances.

A sold out away end provided the soundtrack to the Blues' 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday then stayed long after the match to celebrate the crucial result.

The passionate display followed the scenes outside Finch Farm on Saturday, where hundreds gathered to cheer Everton's players as they left the training complex, and those of last weekend, when Goodison Park was turned into a cauldron of noise for the victory over Chelsea.

Kenwright heaped praise on the Everton fanbase and described the efforts of the supporters at the King Power Stadium as “exciting, moving and humbling".

The chairman added: “To sing for 90 minutes and then continue for a full 20 minutes after the game had ended and every Leicester City fan had left the stadium was incredible. I stood and watched it all at the end and can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like it."

Kenwright insisted he had no doubt the supporters had been vital to the back-to-back wins that have lifted the Blues out of the Premier League relegation zone.

He said: "No one wants to see their club in a relegation battle…especially not our club…but Evertonians have set a new benchmark in how fans can play a part in that battle. I’ve said consistently for decades that there is no club like ours…and that’s because there are no supporters like ours. If proof was needed it’s been shown in abundance over the last 10 days.

"During that time Evertonians have risen to a new level of devotion – even by their own standards – with an unbelievable non-stop display of support for their club and their team, not only at Goodison, but also at Finch Farm and beyond."
