Newcastle United star Joelinton has released a statement after receiving a fine and a driving ban following his drink-driving charge earlier this month. The Brazilian appeared before magistrates in Newcastle today (26 January) and pleaded guilty.
Joelinton has been fined £29,000 and must pay £85 costs and a £2,000 victim surcharge. He has also been banned from driving for 12 months. He has been offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course, which, if completed, will knock 12 weeks off his ban.
District Judge Paul Currer told Joelinton that he “sincerely hopes” he has learned from his mistake, adding: “This offending could, potentially, have had disastrous consequences for the lives of others, as well as yourself.”
