'I am a devotee of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram': Keshav Maharaj on 'Ram Siya Ram' song

NEW DELHI: South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj finds the 'Ram Siya Ram' song played during his entrance quite apt for the occasion. Recently, during the second Test match between India and South Africa in Cape Town, the devotional tune filled the air as Maharaj came out to bat on the opening day.

India's batting star Virat Kohli added a touch of reverence as the song echoed around the ground.

When Maharaj came to the crease accompanied by the tune of 'Ram Siya Ram', Virat, who was fielding at slips, welcomed him with a gesture of folded hands along with bow and arrow movements.

This delightful interaction between the Indian maestro and Maharaj resonated widely across social media, capturing a charming moment on the field.

Speaking about the 'Ram Siya Ram; song being played during his entrance, Maharaj said: "That is my entrance song. I am a devotee of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram so I think it is a fitting song."

The two-match Test series ended in a 1-1 draw. South Africa clinched the first Test while India bounced back to win the second Test at Newlands.

"India is always a fierce opponent and if you want to be the best in the world you have to test yourself against the best in the world so it was a really good challenge and a really exciting series," Maharaj added.

After the historic win, Team India batting star Virat Kohli gave his signed Test jersey to South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj.

Maharaj took to his Instagram account and shared the picture of him with Virat who gifted him his signed number 18 jersey.

"One for the Wall, Thank you @virat.kohli," the Proteas spinner wrote on Instagram while sharing the picture.
