Hyundai Motor Recalls Nearly 300,000 Cars For Faulty Seatbelt Anchors

THE BREAKDOWN:

  • Hyundai recalls 294,128 vehicles due to potentially faulty seatbelt anchors.
  • The anchors may have been damaged during installation, routine maintenance, or repair.
  • The recall affects the 2023-2026 Genesis G90, the 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6, and the 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe.

Hyundai Motor America is recalling 294,128 vehicles due to potentially faulty seatbelts. The affected models could have seatbelt anchors that may detach from the vehicle.

The recall affects the 2023-2026 Genesis G90, the 2023-2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6, and the 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe. According to the recall report, the front seatbelts in these vehicles “may not be sufficiently attached to the seat frame due to a damaged snap-on anchor.”

The automaker first learned of a potential issue in September 2025 and opened an investigation. Over the next several months, Hyundai reviewed its quality control measures and determined that external occupant interaction was unlikely to be the cause. The automaker concluded that the seatbelt anchors may have been damaged during installation, routine maintenance, or repair.

Hyundai said it is aware of six reports related to “insufficiently attached seatbelt anchors,” but is unaware of any injuries, fatalities, or crashes. The automaker will contact owners via first-class mail. Service technicians will inspect the anchor assembly and either add a reinforcement remedy or replace the seat belt assembly.

Motor1’s Take: Detaching seatbelts is not good, but it appears to be a limited issue. Thankfully, the automaker is quick to fix it.
