Hyundai won consecutive World Car of the Year awards with its Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 EVs. The third Ioniq vehicle, previewed by the Ioniq Seven concept, is a large, family-hauling electric crossover called the Ioniq 9. It's Hyundai's version of the Kia EV9 or an electric alternative to the Hyundai Palisade. But it's more than just that. Every trim of the Ioniq 9 gets 300+ miles of range and the EV comes factory-fitted with a Tesla charging port.

The Ioniq 9 will be manufactured at Hyundai's new Georgia Metaplant in the U.S. alongside the Ioniq 5. Hyundai has said that it will qualify for the full $7,500 federal tax credit when deliveries begin in the second quarter of 2025. But President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office in January, has vowed to repeal the consumer purchase incentives for EVs. So its prices may change when it actually goes on sale next year.
That said, we had a chance to check out the Ioniq 9 up close at the LA Auto Show. And here's everything you need to know about it.
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Design
The Ioniq 9 is a large, three-row SUV. Like the Palisade, it skews toward a curvacious, upscale look compared to the Kia EV9, which is more angular and boxy. The long wheelbase and flat floor should allow for a spacious interior. It is 199.2 inches long, slightly over 5 metres. It has a wheelbase of 123.2 inches, while being 77.9 inches wide and 70.4 inches tall. That means both its wheelbase and length are slightly longer than the Kia EV9.
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Powertrain
Like its fellow Ioniq vehicles, the Ioniq 9 uses Hyundai's Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It's 110.3 kilowatt-hour battery pack is slightly larger than that of the Kia EV9 and that means it also has more range. The Long Range rear-wheel-drive trim riding on 19-inch wheels is projected to have an EPA range of 335 miles, about 30 miles more than the Kia EV9.
It will also pack plenty of oomph. It will come with both RWD and AWD configurations. The RWD is similar to the EV9, with 215 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The AWD gets an additional motor on the front that produces 94 hp and 188 pound-feet on its own. There's also a Performance AWD trim which gets a second 215 hp motor in the front, similar to the one at the rear.
The E-GMP platform's 800V architecture provides some of the fastest charging tech on the road. At least on paper, the Ioniq 9 will deliver a 10-80% charging time of just 24 minutes with a 350 kW charger. Once that battery pack is juiced up, you can also use it to power external appliances, another EV or even a home, thanks to vehicle-to-load (V2L) tech.
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 9 Price
Hyundai has yet to reveal pricing for the Ioniq 9. It should be more expensive than the combustion Palisade, which ranges from about $36,000 to $54,000. Pricing may be similar to the Kia EV9, which starts at $54,900 and tops out at $73,900. In top spec, the Ioniq 9 may beat the Ioniq 5 N to be Hyundai's most expensive vehicle.
When Will The Ioniq 9 Be Available?
The production of the 2026 Ioniq 9 starts in the first quarter of 2025 and deliveries will begin in Q2. Apart from the Kia EV9, it locks horns with the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Model X, but both those cars cost considerably more. So the Ioniq 9 will likely be in a league of its own given that it comes with a factory-fitted Tesla port and 300+ miles of range on every trim.
