Long COVID, also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC), refers to the prolonged symptoms experienced by some individuals after recovering from the acute phase of COVID-19. Symptoms can include fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, and joint pain, among others. As health experts seek effective treatments, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has emerged as a potential therapeutic option.
As per a study published in Scientific Reports, in February 2024, the researchers observed significant improvements in cognitive, psychiatric, fatigue, sleep, and pain symptoms among long Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID) patients who underwent hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). This longitudinal long-term follow-up included 31 patients with reported post COVID-19 cognitive symptoms, who underwent 40 daily sessions of HBOT.
