Hyderabad rape: Accused had harassed a second girl at pub, cops still to record her statement

HYDERABAD: A local court has granted police four days' custody of the 18-year-old accused in the Hyderabad gang-rape case. Police will take him into custody from the prison on Thursday. They also moved a petition seeking custody of the five children in conflict with law (CCL) involved in the case.

Meanwhile, police said that the Innova, in which the crime took place, was registered in the name of a woman from Sanathnagar. "We are trying to get official information through RTA. We will find out how the vehicle was used by the family of a chairman of a government body. We have to see if this was a hired vehicle and whether there is any contract," a police officer said. During the press meet on Tuesday. Hyderabad police commissioner C V Anand said the offence took place in an official vehicle allotted to the father of a CCL.

Anand said the accused had harassed the survivor and another girl at the pub, but police so far have not managed to record the statement of the other teenager. After they were harassed, the other girl booked a cab and the survivor came out of the pub to see her off. "When she got out, the pub security cut her access tag. When the survivor tried going back inside after seeing her friend off, she was not let in as her access tag was missing. She called her friend with whom she came to the pub but he did not answer. By offering to drop her home, the accused made the survivor get into their car," a police official said.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
