HYDERABAD : Days after the torture of four men came out in the open, Sanathnagar police are looking into the antecedents of a city-based gold smuggling gang. A few days ago, members of the gold smuggling gang had kidnapped Ahmed Shareef from SR Nagar area.
It all began when Shareef’s son Fahad (23) along with Ayaz (22) and Shahbaz (21) were sent to Dubai 15 days ago by the gang of gold smugglers on visiting visas. The trio was provided flight tickets and shelter in Dubai. Each of them was given 100 dirhams per day towards personal expenses.
About 10 days ago, the gang members gave each carrier two kilo gold paste concealed in plastic pouches and wrapped it around their legs with duct tape.
While Shahbaz and Ayaz reached the city and delivered the consignment to the gang members, Fahad did not board the return flight in Dubai.
Enraged with the ‘betrayal’ of Fahad, the gang rounded up Shahbaz, Ayaz, Shareef and his relative Aseem about a week ago. Four of them were reportedly tortu- red by the gang at a house in Shastripuram area of Mylardevpally to know the whereabouts of Fahad.
The gang let off the four men only after the family members approached police on Wednesday. The four persons refused to lodge a complaint initially, but once the news spread like a wild fire, cops decided to register a case. “We will take a complaint from one of them and register a case,” Sanathnagar inspector M Muthu Yadav said.
