HYDERABAD: On the first day of re-opening of intermediate colleges, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has shocked students who have taken admission in the Government Junior college Chanchalguda by banning their entry.
Citing the dilapidated condition of the building structure, the GHMC's town planning section of South zone has affixed a "Caution Notice" at the entrance of the college in Chanchalguda, banning entry into the premises.
In the wake of weeklong torrential rains across the state, the GHMC has identified more than 200 structures, especially in old city, that fall under dilapidated condition category and the Chanchalguda junior college as one among them.
"Though the structure of Government Junior college Chanchalguda is recognized as a Heritage building, the dilapidated structures pose a threat to the students hence entry was banned," said S Jayant Deputy Municipal Commissioner Circle-6 of South Zone.
Since the news of the sudden closure of Government junior college spread on social media, the students are in a state of worry as alternate college building is yet to be identified.
The college building also houses the Government high school. There is a huge number of students who study in Telugu, Urdu and English medium in the government school in the first shift in the morning.
Although Municipal authorities have taken a decision to ban the entry into the college building, it is the education department that has to take a final call, sources in the GHMC said.
Though GHMC has affixed the notice, the officials of the education department are still unaware of the action by the Municipal authorities.
