Huw Jenkins lands new job as ex-Swansea City chairman spotted at youth derby clash with Cardiff City

Former Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has linked up with a global sports management agency.

The 59-year-old joined the Swans in 2002 and was a pivotal figure as the club staved off relegation from the Football League in 2003 by beating Hull City 4-2 at The Vetch Field on the final day of the campaign.

Under his leadership, the club rose up through the divisions and into the Premier League for the first time while also playing in the Europa League after winning the League Cup in 2013. But his relationship with fans turned sour following the sale of the club to Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien in 2016.

The Jack Army regularly protested against the ownership of the club, with Jenkins leaving his post as chairman in February 2019. Jenkins was spotted sitting next to former Swan Wilfried Bony during the mini south Wales derby at Leckwith on Tuesday afternoon - with the 10-man visitors losing 4-3 to their bitter rivals.

And it has been confirmed that the Welshman has joined Cobalt Sports Management Agency - a firm which specialises in the careers of professional footballers.

"We are delighted to announce that Huw Jenkins OBE will be joining the @cobaltsportsmanagement team," a statement read. "Huw was Swansea City chairman between 2002/2019 and overlooked their meteoric rise from the very bottom of League Two to the very top of the pyramid @premierleague.

"During this time, Huw developed an outstanding track record with his recruitment of both players and managers. Merging Huw’s unquestionable expertise and wealth of experience alongside our current staff members will ensure our current and future clients will get the very maximum from their individual careers.

"Huw obtained an OBE in 2015 for his services to Welsh football and also won the prestigious football CEO of the year in 2015. We look forward to beginning our work with Huw and hopefully this addition brings many years of future success."

Following his exit from Swansea, Jenkins was linked with the purchase of Charlton Athletic, although a deal failed to materialise as the schedule was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bony's son Geoff was an unused substitute as Jon Grey and Anthony Wright's young guns were beaten by Cardiff. You can read the report from the game here.
