Huw Edwards to host big Queen's Platinum Jubilee concert in Swansea

Swansea's annual celebration of music and the arts will be marked with a special Platinum Jubilee Concert paying tribute to the Queen featuring some of music and arts' finest. The event will be hosted by Huw Edwards at Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, on October 29, 2022 and accompanied by Penclawdd born Sir Karl Jenkins, the welsh multi-instrumentalist and composer.

The 70-year-old festival returns after a two-year long absence following the Covid pandemic and has been considered an important part of artistic life in Swansea aiming to reach youth with schools outreach projects. To mark the occasion the festival has commissioned Sir Karl Jenkins to write a new work entitled ‘This Faithful Life, with text by poet Grahame Davies. It will be accompanied by: Catrin Finch (harp), Steffan Lloyd Owen (baritone), Swansea Philharmonic Choir and the British Sinfonietta Conducted by Jonathan Rogers.

BBC One newsreader, Huw Edwards will present a programme which includes Royal favourites by Handel, Hubert Parry, Walton and Welsh composers. Festival chair Mal Pope speaking to Sir Karl Jenkins on the return said: "We're going to bring the festival back, we've had a dormant period because of covid but coming back with a new concert".
