Husband dies two weeks after Lanarkshire horror crash that killed his wife

A man has died two weeks after a horror crash on the A725 in North Lanarkshire which also claimed the life of his wife. Mohammed Rashid, the husband of Shamim Rashid, 66, who died after the tragic incident, has also now passed away.

The 70-year-old was in the car alongside his wife who was driving at the time of the three-car collision, which took place on the A725 Bellshill Bypass at around 4.20pm on Tuesday, August 30. The couple leave behind three children.

The heartbreaking news was announced by Lanarkshire Mosque yesterday, Thursday, September 15, prompting loved ones to send their thoughts and condolences to the bereft family via social media.

A Mosque spokesperson wrote on Facebook: "With immense sadness, I inform that Mohammed Rashid who was involved in a car accident recently with his wife Shamin Rashid has returned to mercy of Allah SWT also. Both husband and wife didn't survive the car crash.

"Mohammed Rashid was the husband of the late Shamin Rashid and father of Sabina, Rozeena and Miriam Naseem. May Allah (SWT) grant them both a place in Jannat Al Firdaws and give the family sabr at this difficult time. Details of the Janazah and burial will be released as soon as they have been confirmed."

One person wrote: "May Allah grant both parents highest rank in Jannah and give the family sabr", while another said: "So sad. RIP." A third added: "So so sad."

Emergency services raced to the scene of the fatal incident (Freelance)

Cops confirmed the tragic death this afternoon, and have urged anyone with information to come forward. A statement online read: "A second person has died following a crash on the A725 Bellshill Bypass on Tuesday, August 30.

"Mohammed Rashid, 70, from Bellshill died at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow on the morning of Thursday, 15 September. His wife Shamim Rashid, 66, died on the day of the collision. Their family has been fully informed.

"The collision involved a BMW 1 series car, which was being driven by Mrs Rashid with Mr Rashid as a passenger, a Citroen C4 car and a road sweeper. Enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information which not yet been passed on to Police Scotland can call 101, quoting reference 2323 of August 30, 2022.

Tributes previously flooded infor Shamim, who was described as "wonderful, loving and caring". Yasmin Majid said: "We lost our beautiful friend in car accident. May Allah SWT grant baji Shamim Rashid highest rank in jannah-tul-firdouse and give her family sabbar."

Police Scotland previously urged anyone with any information or dashcam footage of the event to get in touch as part of their probe into the fatal event.

At the time, Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Shamim. Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing and we are appealing for the help of the public.

"The area was busy at the time and I would ask anyone who witnessed the crash and has not already spoken to police to get in touch. I would also ask anyone who was in the area at the time to review any dashcam footage and get in touch if they can assist.”
