One man thought he was marking Valentine's Day with a timeless classic when he nipped to the shop to buy a bunch of flowers for his wife or so he thought.
John Musk returned to the couple's home in Syston to proudly present his gift, even advising Donna to put them in water. It was at this point that Donna gently pointed out the 53-year-old's mistake - he'd come back with spring onions.
"He honestly didn't know the difference," Donna told LeicestershireLive to talk about the error he made last year.
Donna said: "He came home and told me to put them in some water, but I quickly realised they were spring onions and not the flowers he was aiming for.
"I know they look a little bit alike when they haven't bloomed, especially when they both come with elastic around them and they're both green sticks, but it's still ridiculous.
"It's definitely one of the worst Valentine's Day presents a girl could get - but we just see the funny side to it now. Our kids found it hilarious too, they don't know how he could have mixed the two up.
"To be fair to him, if the ones in the shop had started to bloom the yellow flowers he would have realised his mistake and grabbed them."
Donna and John have had eight children, who in turn have given them nine grandchildren.
To be on the safe side this year, John decided to take Donna for a pub meal to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Donna added: "I told him we shouldn't order the side salad though, just to make sure spring onions don't get included this year as well.
"We don't do too much for Valentine's Day as it's very close to our wedding anniversary and we have just celebrated 25 years together this year."
