Hurricanes underline Tasmania's sporting purple patch

Long an outpost of sporting insignificance, Tasmanians are soaking up the Hobart Hurricanes' Big Bash League title as the latest hard-earned success by the Apple Isle.

The Canes took out the T20 competition in style on Monday night with a seven-wicket thrashing of Sydney Thunder at the hands of home-town hero Mitch Owen.
