As Hurricane Beryl advances inland on Monday morning, Southeast Texas is facing the threat of extreme rainfall rates and flash flooding in populated areas such as Houston and Galveston metro areas.
The Weather Prediction Center has issued warnings of extremely heavy rainfall moving northward, with areas of flash flooding likely. The forecast includes considerable to severe urban flash flooding with locally life-threatening impacts expected.
Residents are urged to exercise caution as numerous to widespread areas of flash flooding can be expected. Major metropolitan areas, including the Houston/Galveston vicinity, are at particular risk over the next several hours.
Extreme rainfall rates of two to four inches per hour are possible, especially in areas where the inner eyewall or other organized bands east of the storm's center pass through. Rainfall totals of four to eight inches are expected through midday.
Authorities are advising residents to stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, and follow any evacuation orders issued. It is crucial to prioritize safety and preparedness during this severe weather event.
