A Hunter-based healthcare manufacturer took home business of the year and excellence in international business at this year's NSW Business Awards.

Whiteley Corporation is a local company that produces sterilants, disinfectants and professional cleaning products for the healthcare industry.

They export to more than 35 markets globally from their Tomago location and have recently been certified to export medical devices to the United States and Canada.

Chairman Greg Whiteley said they spent many years developing an export business, often with many nights away from home and ensuing jet-lag and sleep deprivation.

"This is a major affirmation for our company and the enormous work effort from all of our team," Dr Whiteley said.

"It is also a major acknowledgement for the Hunter which is now the powerhouse of manufacturing in the state of NSW."

In his speech, Dr Whitely congratulated the work of his whole team and thanked Business Hunter for their support.

"We are continuing to work as hard as we can, in growing our business and increasing local employment and contributing to our communities," he said.

"We are terrifically thrilled to receive this award."

The 92-year-old company had been a member of the Business Chamber for more than 60 years.

Dr Whitely said the business had a new human therapeutics plant for over the counter medicines available online in early 2025 and were also looking to establish a permanent manufacturing site in the United States.

Managing director Darran Leyden said the team was "humbled" to win both awards.

"It is a wonderful acknowledgement and accolade for all of our staff who are the backbone of our business," she said.

The NSW State Business Awards celebrated the leading businesses, innovators and entrepreneurs from 11 regions across the state.
