The defense team is attempting to cast doubt on the prosecution's claims that Hunter Biden knowingly lied to gun dealers by suggesting that he had little interest in purchasing a firearm. According to the defense, the gun salesman took the initiative in showing Hunter the guns while he was looking at other items and even selected a handgun for him.
The salesman, Gordon Cleveland, reportedly referred to himself as a 'whale hunter,' as revealed to the jurors by Hunter Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell. Lowell also mentioned that Hunter was actually in the area to buy a new phone from the AT&T store across the street, not specifically to purchase a gun.
Although the defense's opening statements have not focused much on former President Joe Biden, Lowell did point out that Hunter Biden drove his father's black Cadillac to the AT&T store on the day he acquired the revolver.
