Hungarian football’s governing body have confirmed Barnabas Varga is stable in hospital after a nasty collision forced the Euro 2024 tie with Scotland to be halted for several minutes.
The Hungary striker fell to the ground in the second half following an aerial challenge inside Scotland’s penalty area.
Hungary players quickly signalled that Varga was in trouble and were incensed by the time the medical teams were taking to get over to help treat the player.
The 29-year-old was shielded from the cameras and after several minutes of treatment, Varga was eventually taken away on a stretcher and a VAR check for a possible penalty came to nothing.
A statement from the Hungarian Football Federation on his condition read: “Barnabas Varga’s condition is stable. The Ferencvaros player is currently in one of the hospitals in Stuttgart. We will inform you immediately if there is any news about his status.”
While Hungary head coach Marco Rossi stated: “Barnabás Varga’s life is not in danger.
“He will undergo an operation after fracture in his face and he won’t be available for the rest of Euro 2024”.
Hungary went on to win the clash thanks to Kevin Csoboth's stoppage time goal, and it gives them a chance of progressing into the last 16.
