President Donald Trump has nominated Hung Cao as permanent Navy secretary, handing a combat veteran control of a service under strain as the Iran war pushes US sailors through record deployments and churning Pentagon leadership rattles the military's top ranks.
Trump announced the pick on Tuesday, calling Cao a 'true warrior' and urging the Senate to confirm him quickly so he can continue what the president described as fantastic work over the past four months. Cao, who has led the Department of the Navy in an acting capacity since April, called the nomination the 'honour of a lifetime' to lead the Navy and Marine Corps team.
