Health workers in northern Gaza have undertaken the grim task of exhuming at least 381 bodies from mass graves in and around Al-Shifa Hospital. This effort comes after reports that Israeli forces killed hundreds of Palestinians and left their bodies to decompose during a two-week siege of the complex.
The number of bodies exhumed so far does not include those buried within the hospital grounds, as confirmed by Gaza Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization, has stated that several United Nations agencies are involved in the retrieval of bodies to ensure dignified burials for the deceased.
