Hugo Ekitike admits he has no regrets snubbing Newcastle United for PSG despite struggling to hit the ground running at the French champions. The forward, 20, was a top target for the Magpies in summer but couldn't resist the charm of his country's biggest club as he agreed PSG on a season-long loan.
Ekitike has only found the net once in Ligue 1 this season and has played a bit-part role behind Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi. However, the youngster is still happy with his summer transfer decision.
“No, I know why I came here. Of course, when you arrive in a club like this, there’s a lot of expectations," Ekitike told Canal+ TV. "People expect performances, and if they don’t come, people will obviously ask questions.

“I play in a role where I’m always going to be questioned, because I came with a big transfer fee. I need to assume that, and that’s what I’m doing. It’s not a problem. If I play badly, I’ll be the first to admit it, and if I play well, I’ll be there too, and I will continue to be good.”
Ekitike will be hoping for a more prosperous 2023 as he battles to earn a permanent deal at the Parc des Princes. Speaking back in October, PSG boss Christophe Galtier admitted having words with the striker about his performances and attitude.
“I had a long discussion with Hugo last week," he told reporters. "Obviously, he isn’t satisfied with his limited playing time. I told him that I was in part responsible, but that he was also responsible.
"When you have the attacking trio that we have at PSG (Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappé), that requires a lot of commitment and resilience and you have to keep going. When you play in place of one of them, there is a natural comparison.
"He has been disappointed at times, and rightfully so, at not starting certain matches. He has been disappointed, and I have explained my reasons."
