Huge World Cup Fan Zones announced as two Newcastle city centre venues share big plans

Football fans are in for a World Cup extravaganza as two big venues in the city announce plans to host fan zones bringing all the England action to the big screen.

Central Park, the outdoor beer garden in Times Square, and NX Newcastle - the city's newest music venue - have both announced they will host a World Cup fan zone to screen the upcoming games live from Qatar alongside various other attractions including special guests and drinks packages.

NX Newcastle, just opened in the former home of 02 Academy, has revealed plans for a 1,500-capacity England World Cup fan zone which will bring football fans all the team's live action on what it claims will be the biggest indoor screen in the city. Tickets for the events go on sale this Wednesday at 12pm.

Central Park, meanwhile, is planning to screen all the tournament's matches on three big screens in a heated World Cup Fan Zone when it makes its return in November, with - in addition to its familiar 30-metre bar and food outlets - heated and covered capacity for 2,000 people. There also will be live music and DJs before and after the games and advance tickets will be available from Thursday.

The nearby new state-of-the-art NX Newcastle in the city's Westgate Road, which is currently preparing for its big launch weekend, said its own upcoming screenings will show all the England matches - hosted by Sky Sports Keith Downie - plus live music, DJs, drinks specials, VIP packages and appearances from England legends.

Its fan zone programme will kick off with England’s first match against Iran on November 21, which invites fans to come together under one roof to share an immersive big crowd atmosphere in the venue which - first occupied in 1920 by the Majestic Cinema. - has undergone a major £2.75m revamp which has introduced top-of-the-range sound and lighting systems for its programme of live music and club nights.

They are also promised Qatar 2022 match analysis and banter from host Downie. Kick off for the first match is at 1pm, with doors opening at 11.30am to allow fans to enjoy the build-up. Then following confirmed group stage screenings will see England take on the US on November 25 then play Wales on November 29. Doors for both those matches will open at 5pm ahead of kick off at 7pm.

Tickets for the England World Cup Fan Zone go on sale this September 21 from 12 noon and cost £10 plus a booking fee. They are available from NX Newcastle here as well as from Gigantic and Ticketweb. VIP packages are to be announced soon. See the venue's website too for more about the venue's upcoming music programme, including its Friday launch party and a gig by Newcastle Britpop favourites The National Anthems.

Those wanting tickets for Central Park can sign up here for access to advance tickets for £10 which will be on sale from 5pm on Thursday. Tickets will then go on general ticket release at 10am on Friday.
