Two dogs and four people sailing in a yacht in the Bristol Channel had to be rescued. Portishead RNLI crews were paged at just after 4pm on Saturday (April 29) to reports of a yacht en-route to Bristol which had lost power at the mouth of the River Avon.
Crews on the boat managed to drop anchor as they were drifting towards a mud bank in the estuary. It was then towed back to safety at Portishead Marina, reports Somerset Live.
A Portishead RNLI spokesman said: “The casualty vessel managed to get an anchor down as they started to drift towards the mud bank which was the right thing to do. Once on scene the RNLI crew were able to check and make sure that all four people on board and their two dogs were safe and well.

“They were well equipped and were all wearing lifejackets The crew set up with a long tow initially, then swopping to an alongside tow, as the casualty vessel was taken to the safety of Portishead Marina where our shore crew were waiting to help them to the pontoon.”
Soon after returning to the station, crews were called out again at 6.45pm by police trying to locate a missing person. The search was stood down after the individual was found.
