Huge queues from 2am for Record Store Day event with BBQ, live music and more

Huge queues lined Seel Street in Liverpool's city centre this morning for the much-anticipated Record Store Day event, with some people getting there for 2am.

The popular event unites independent record shops across the UK and sees highly sought after, unique and never-before released stock on sale only at one of the 260 registered independents. Liverpool's own Jacaranda Record Store is among such venues, with music fans out in hoards to get their hands on coveted items.

The venue opened its doors at 8am this morning, April 23, allowing people to enter and peruse the new offerings. Many people brought chairs to sit on while awaiting the store's opening. Jacaranda has gone all out to impress customers, with entertainment and food available in addition to the unique new stock.

The first customer through the door was Hannah, from Wigan, who had been camped outside since 2am. She said: "I could have gone to somewhere in Manchester, it would have been easier but I chose Jacaranda Records because I like there’s a lot of female staff. It’s the perfect store."

Jack Rowley, marketing manager at Jacaranda Group, told the ECHO : "We hit our 100th individual customer by 9.30am. The largest individual sale so far was £490."

Namina Koroma, manager at Jacaranda Records Phase One, added: "We’ve had an amazing day so far, seeing plenty of old faces, new ones and even some tired ones too – since people have been queuing since 2am. The feedback we’ve got about our new look shop is amazing."

There's been live performances to the huge queue to help music fans get in the spirit of the day, while free tea and coffee has also been offered out. Those feeling peckish can venture to the Phase One Courtyard where there's a summery BBQ complete with vegan options.

In store, there's live vinyl DJs while the first 20 customers to make a purchase received a free Jacaranda Records/Record Store Day art print, numbered one to 20. The event has proved popular, with consistent lines of people making their way to the store.

The Record Store Day event is being held at Jacaranda Records Phase One today, April 23. The venue can be found at 40 Seel Street, L1 4BE.
