A widespread power cut is hitting more than 1,000 properties in Stockport on Saturday night, Electricity North West has revealed.
In a Twitter post, they said the outage was reported in the SK6 postcode area as well as surrounding areas. It's said to have been caused by 'an unexpected incident on the high voltage cable'.
Engineers, said Electricity North West, were heading out to investigate, but no further details have been revealed.
A total of 1,081 customers are affected, according to the report. Updates are being offered to all those affected via mobile phone text message.
On its website, Electricity North West said almost 900 properties were being hit by the outage in the Bredbury Green and Romiley areas. A further 50 were said to be without power in Bramhall South and Woodford. Estimated times of restoration vary between 10.45pm tonight - Saturday - and the early hours of Sunday, January 8.
A message on Electricity North West's website reads the issue was first reported at around 7.45pm.
It added: "This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident on the high voltage cable that provides electricity to your home or business. We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible.
"Please be aware that all our timescales are estimated based on previous experience and may change if new information becomes available while our engineers are fixing the issue.
"With high voltage power cuts, we're often able to get many of the homes involved back on before our estimated time of restoration."
On Twitter, they said: "We are aware of a power cut affecting Stockport SK6 and surrounding areas, which is affecting 1,081 customers. Our engineers are on their way to investigate, so if you would like to be kept updated via SMS please DM your full address and mobile number."
No further details have been revealed.
