Huge machetes seized from Edinburgh home after series of violent attacks in city

Two large machetes have been seized by police during a daring raid on an Edinburgh home after being tipped off by community sources. Officers also discovered a quantity of heroin inside the property on Harvesters Way while carrying out a search warrant on Monday, January 16.

Pictures released by investigators show the terrifying weapons lying side by side along with their sheaths. The blades will be destroyed following the conclusion of the criminal probe. Enquiries to find the owner of the seized items remain ongoing.

Chief Inspector Mark Hamilton, Area Commander for South West Edinburgh, said: “On the afternoon of Monday, 16 January, 2023, police executed a drugs search warrant at a property on Harvesters Way, Edinburgh.

“A quantity of heroin, valued at a low three-figure sum, and two machetes were recovered. Further enquiries into the matter are ongoing and we would like to thank members of the community for information which led to this recovery.”

It is understood that the weapon seizure is not connected to recent gangland incidents which have gripped the capital city. We previously told how a 28-year-old man suffered ‘the worst injuries doctors have seen’ following a ‘targeted’ machete attack in the Pilton area of Edinburgh.

The victim was allegedly pinned down by thugs who attempted to hack off his hands and legs. Police say two vehicles, which were later found burnt out, are believed to have been used by the attackers.

The incident is being treated as attempted murder. It was the first of two assaults with a machete in less than 24 hours in the city and officers said they are keeping an “open mind” on whether the incidents are linked.

The badly injured man, who is being treated at the Western General Hospital, was assaulted on Thursday, January 5.

The following evening, convicted heroin dealer Edmond Reid – who has links to Scots cocaine kingpin Mark Richardson – was confronted by a man wearing a balaclava and brandishing a machete.

Reid, 36, escaped unhurt from the incident in Cumnor Crescent in Inch.
