Huge emergency response at Leeds student accommodation after discovery of 'unidentified substances'

Specialist emergency services have been called to a student accommodation in Leeds following the discovery of unidentified substances.

The emergency services were called to Oxley Hall student accommodation in Weetwood Lane, Leeds on Friday evening. A scene remains in place today.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications. Officers say there is no risk to the wider public.

A force spokesman said: "A scene is currently in place at Oxley Hall student accommodation in Weetwood Lane, Leeds, following the arrest of a man yesterday evening on suspicion of malicious communications.

"Specialist emergency services resources have attended today as a precaution due to the potential presence of substances at the address. The scene was subsequently confirmed as safe and there is no wider risk to residents of the accommodation.

"The man remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing."
