HS2 cost 'soars by £9bn' bringing total estimate of high-speed rail link to £80bn

The estimated cost of building the London to Birmingham leg of the HS2 high-speed line has increased by £9bn, according to reports.

This could mean the final bill for the first phase of the 225mph railway could reach £80bn at current prices.
