Howling for a Husky

The Husqvarna Norden 901 has finally arrived in the country.

The Norden 901 is a fantastic adventure touring bike that's capable of full long-distance travel, powered by a smooth and torquey 889cc parallel twin engine contained within a lightweight steel trellis frame.

Designed to shine on every trip, both on the road and when riding over rough terrain, it has superior, high-performance offroad suspension, adaptable tyres that provide traction in all circumstances, and ergonomics that provide greater comfort for long rides.

The seat height is manageable for all adventurers and places you closer to the front wheel for improved feel and grip.

The chromo trellis frame was engineered to provide precise input with agility and light-handling through the tightest curves, stability and comfort over long distances, and greater off-road capability on less-travelled trails.

Despite its small size and light weight, the frame is as durable as any obstacle you throw at it, whether it's hauling luggage, a passenger or both anyplace from the street to the most isolated route with a fuel range of 400km or more.

Engine

Featuring throttle with ride-by-wire, the 889cc, double overhead cam, liquid cooled, parallel twin engine's two balancer shafts will enhance comfort and reduce vibration. With a maximum output of 105hp at 8,000rpm and 100Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, the engine packs a load of power. Long service intervals of 15,000km and low fuel consumption make the Norden 901's engine a sweet choice too.

Wheels

The 21in front and 18in rear wheels are clad in Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR rubber good for paved and unpaved surfaces. The wheels' wire-spoked, tubeless construction makes them light for simple handling and flexible for comfort.

Suspension

Control and comfort are priorities in the Norden 901. The WP APEX 43mm upside-down front forks with 220mm of travel ensure flawless performance and comfort in any setting. The WP APEX rear shock has a substantial 215mm of travel and can be adjusted for spring preload and rebound damping to suit the terrain and your load.

Brakes

The Norden 901 has MotoGP-derived technology featuring the Husqvarna-branded J.Juan brake system, with four-piston, radial front calipers operating on two 320mm floating discs. A 260mm disc and a two-piston floating caliper make up the rear brake. The ABS system comes courtesy of Bosch.

Clutch

The PASC (power assist slipper clutch) maximises rear wheel grip under full acceleration while minimising rear wheel instability and hopping when downshifting quickly or braking hard into a turn. You will also find it easier to operate because as you open the throttle, the hand effort required on the clutch when changing gear is reduced.

Gear Box

The 6-speed sequential transmission comes with a ratio to suit every situation, from modest pace to motorway top speed. The short shift lever travel and light spring action are designed for quick and precise gear changing, and there's a quick shifter when needed. The teeth of the fourth, fifth and sixth gears have been glass bead blasted for maximum reliability.

Ride modes

With three riding modes to choose from (Street, Rain and Off-Road) plus the optional Explorer Mode, you can instantly select the optimal combination of rider aids as the weather and terrain change. The throttle responsiveness, traction control level and peak power are all adjustable.

Easy Shift

Easy Shift allows you to make seamless gear changes. A sensor detects when you actuate the gear lever and instructs the ECU to match engine parameters for a fuss-free gear change at any revs or engine load. The Easy Shift system means short shift times and a smoother ride because there is no need to close the throttle and operate the clutch to change gear. As well as improving rear wheel traction, Easy Shift lets you maintain control by keeping full grip of the handlebars.

MTC

The cornering Motorcycle Traction Control is lean angle sensitive. When the system detects that the rear wheel is turning at the wrong speed for the riding situation, throttle input is reduced until the correct level of rear wheel slippage for the selected ride mode and current angle of lean is reached.

TFT Display

A 5-inch TFT is available with a mount and power connection for your phone. The Ride Husqvarna app streams music from your phone and a Bluetooth headset lets you answer calls via a control on the handlebar. The "Turn By Turn" function is a map-free trip planner.
