The Indianapolis Colts made a splash move Wednesday by trading cornerback Rock Ya-Sin to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.
The 26-year-old pass rusher has experience working with new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley so we should have a pretty good idea about where he fits along the defensive line.
But this trade is likely to shake things up at least a little bit in terms of the roles.
Here’s a quick look at how the defensive line depth chart might look following this big trade:
Pos. | First | Second | Third |
LEO | Yannick Ngakoue | Ben Banogu
DT (3-Tech) | DeForest Buckner | Tyquan Lewis
DT (1-Tech) | Grover Stewart | Chris Williams
Big End | Kwity Paye | Dayo Odeyingbo | Kameron Cline |
This isn’t set in stone and almost every player will be moving around the defensive line. But with Nagkoue joining the front, its likely that he will be the starting LEO while Paye works both at the Big End and LEO positions.
The same goes for players like Tyquan Lewis and Dayo Odeyingbo. They were drafted to work on the edge while having the ability to kick inside if needed. Expect both players to do that.
Chris Ballard has harped on having depth along the defensive line. While it’s not completely set, the addition of Ngakoue helps move that process along.
