Residents of Makerfield have delivered their verdict on Labour’s Andy Burnham, handing him a landslide victory in a contest that could have major ramifications for determining the country’s next prime minister.
Mr Burnham had made it clear he would challenge Sir Keir Starmer if he won the by-election and returned to parliament.
