NEW DELHI: From Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly acknowledging India's effort to host the 2036 Olympic Games to cricket making its return to the biggest stage of multi-sport events after a wait of 128 years, the 141st IOC (International Olympic Committee) Session held in Mumbai ended with a bat-and-ball story that now offers the cricket-mad nation a chance to add the coveted Olympic gold medal to its name.
To celebrate cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic programme, India briefly came out of the grip of World Cup fever to celebrate the announcement and exchange congratulatory messages. The credit for the sport's return after the 1900 Games went far and wide, and the rolling names included obvious stakeholders, until Niccolo Campriani, the Sports Director of the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee, struck a chord with India by putting the spotlight on Virat Kohli.
