How we got hooked on Horrible Histories

Re your editorial on Horrible Histories (6 December), my son did his degree in history thanks in no small part to him having watched the show. It whiled away car journeys on the DVD players attached to our seat headrests and we all sang along to the sketches. My favourite line is in the RAF Pilots song: “Take that, Hitler!”

• I work at a heritage site on the Devon coast. Overwhelmingly, the sharpest reaction to the grim lives of quarrymen at Beer Quarry Caves over the centuries of pay at sixpence a day is from the eight- to 12-year-olds. They exit their tours glowing and telling our guides that this is Horrible Histories for real.

• I have often been dismayed by the vilification of Sadiq Khan in the media. The news that he is said to be in line for a knighthood is music to my ears (Report, 6 December). I admire his persistence in implementing unpopular policies that improve Londoners’ lives.
