How TV is inspiring everyday fashion trends, from Bridgerton, Euphoria and Lucy and Yak

With at least 18.4 million people subscribed to Netflix in the UK, masses of Britons are tuning in to watch the worlds most popular TV shows every single day. Whilst our eyes are glued to our screens during moments of escapism, our decisions are being influenced by what we are seeing.

From the language we use to the clothes that we wear, we are noticing the make-believe world we watch on TV being mirrored in our day-to-day lives. Social media users are increasingly searching for fashion trends featured in popular TV shows like Euphoria on Sky and Netflix's Bridgerton.

With searches like ‘Euphoria outfits inspo’ increasing by 929% over the last 12 months, it’s clear to see that the everyday clothing choices we make are being inspired by the TV shows we watch.

Not only this, but the influence that the small screen is having over fashion is helping clothing brands to grow. The popular sustainable fashion brand, Lucy & Yak, who have just collaborated a line with Sex Education actor, Tanya Reynolds, have seen their pieces be featured across multiple TV shows, and have also noticed how fashion trends are taking inspiration from television shows on both social media and on the high street.

Below we have compiled a list of some of the most influential shows, and how they are influencing fashion.

Bridgerton

Bridgerton has recently returned to our screens for a long anticipated second season, bringing with it it's elaborate 18th-century inspired fashion. Featuring floral patterns, pastel colours and of course, lots of corsets, the show has had an impact on the way that people are dressing today, as seen across social media platforms.

The hashtag #BridgertonFashion has drawn three million views on TikTok alone, and as the season continues it is expected that we will see more elaborate jewellery pieces and statement hair up-dos.

Sex Education

Recycling the vibrant fashion of the 80's, this popular Netflix show offers a racy spin on the classic coming-of-age, High School drama. The show offers such an array of styles that many viewers find it easy to discover a style they resonate with across the wardrobes of the characters.

From bright colours to grunge, there's a trend for all. The hashtag #SexEducationOutfits have a growing 158.4 thousand views on TikTok as fans continue to find outfit inspiration in the shows costume department.

Sex Education is a great example of how TV can influence not just fashion styles, but an entire fashion brand. One of Lucy and Yak's blue boiler suits was featured in the show, as well as an eye-catching orange and yellow fleece, which caught the attention of commenters on Instagram.

This has led to Tanya Reynolds, who plays Lily Iglehart in the show, recently collaborating with Lucy and Yak on one of their new collections. She is seen alongside comedian Abi Clarke modelling their denim pinafore dresses, twill jackets, famous dungarees and colourful fleeces. Aimee Lou Wood, who plays Amy in the show, also recommended Lucy & Yak in an interview with Stylist, no doubt offering the brand even more exposure.

Euphoria

This show's experimental styles and makeup trends have exploded into high street fashion, with the hashtag #EuphoriaMakeUp garnering a staggering 1.9 billion views on TikTok.

Although it brings a resurgence for lots of 90's and 2000's styles, each character is given their own individual look and much like Sex Education, and viewers are recreating the looks of the characters who they relate with most. Fans of the confident and unapologetic Maddie might opt for a bralette co-ord, whilst fans of Kat might be seen sporting a more dark and daring look.

Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris is extremely fashion focused. It's Parisian influence, berets and bold colour clashing have been mirrored across social media as well as on the high-street.

Brimming with replicas of the looks featured on the show, Emily in Paris has had an undeniable influence on modern fashion trends, and with the hashtag #EmilyInParisOutfits attracting over 34 million views on TikTok, it is emphasised just how much shoppers are loving the outfits.
