A wedding speech expert has revealed how to write the perfect vows - and says couples should never use clichés like "soulmate". Heidi Ellert-McDermott, 46, said writing your own vows can be the perfect meaningful gesture on your big day - but it's easy to get wrong.
She said mistakes such as talking for too long and using generic clichés can take away from the moment. Heidi said phrases such as "nothing made sense until you came into my life" and "you have shown me what loves means" add no meaning and should be avoided. Instead, she revealed some top tips for writing the perfect vows that you'll look back on fondly forever.
Heidi, founder of speech writing company Speechy, said: "We're definitely seeing more people come to us for help with their vows - and a lot more of them are in the UK than before. There ares so many well-established wedding traditions, but delivering your own vows is a relatively recent phenomenon - so there isn't really a template for it."
