Oscars 2024: preview
It’s time to roll out the red carpet as Hollywood heavyweights like Ryan Gosling, Jodie Foster, and Martin Scorsese waltz into Dolby Theatre to celebrate 2023’s bumper crop of movies. "Barbenheimer" set the box-office on fire, and films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Past Lives made multiple critics Top 10 lists.
Jimmy Kimmel will return as host for the fourth time, so viewers can look forward to a hilarious opening skit riffing off of the Best Picture nominees, plus an opening monologue in which the TV presenter and comedian roasts his impeccably dressed, A-list audience.
Oppenheimer has the most nominations with an impressive 13. But it faces stiff competition from Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon, which boast 11 and 10 respectively. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, meanwhile, has nods in eight categories, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress for America Ferrera.
As well as 23 category winners to announce, there’ll be some thrilling musical numbers courtesy of the Best Original Song nominees – yes, Gosling will be performing Spotify smash “I’m Just Ken” from the Barbie soundtrack! And viewers can expect a wealth of industry icons to grace the stage (Chris Hemsworth, Michelle Yeoh, Al Pacino) to hand out awards.
