History
The Panthers carry a 14-5 all-time record versus the Cardinals, which accounts for their highest winning percentage (.737) against any team. They’ve also come out on top in their last six meetings, including two wins in postseason play and three in each of the past three seasons.
Carolina’s 2021 triumph was highlighted by the scintillating return of quarterback Cam Newton, who scored two touchdowns on his first two touches of the afternoon. Newton and his cats ate the 8-1 redbirds up, 34-10.
What to watch for
For the Panthers to move to 2-2 on the campaign and 15-5 against the Cardinals, they’ll probably need running back Christian McCaffrey. The oft-injured rusher, however, is starting to make things interesting—as he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a thigh injury.
But, there’s more than a glimmer of hope. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, there is still a sense of optimism regarding McCaffrey’s status for Sunday—which would be huge, obviously, for a struggling Carolina offense.
On the other side, the Panthers will have to worry about the dynamic Kyler Murray, who wasn’t present for that aforementioned 2021 clash. Murray, however, hasn’t been his usual self—as he’s thrown for 784 yards and just three touchdowns over his three outings.
