Liège-Bastogne-Liège 2026 Preview

Liège-Bastogne-Liège is the oldest and the last of the spring Monuments, a savage race set on a 260km course in Wallonia, the French speaking part of Belgium. This year the 112th edition of the race features 3,700 meters of climbing with the final ascent, the Côte de la Roche-aux-Faucons, coming just 13 kilometers from the finish line.

Packed with famous climbs such as the Côte de Saint-Roch, Côte de Wanne, Côte de Stockeu and the brutal Côte de la Redoute, it wears down the riders, leaving only the very strongest able to fight for the win.

Leading the list of favorites is once more Tadej Pogačar who is aiming for his fourth win to place him one shy of the record five set by Eddy Merckx. After missing out at Paris-Roubaix, Pog will be keen to get his season ‘back on track’ and add to his already huge tally of Monuments with another win here. But can anyone stop him?

Among those lining up in the vain hope he has an off day are two-time winner Remco Evenepoel, who must believe he has a chance, and new French sensation Paul Sexias who goes head-to-head with Pogačar for the first time this year.

In what could be the first episode of a rivalry for the ages it will be fascinating to see how the 19-year-old wonder kid fairs against the best rider of this, and possibly any, generation.

The U.K.’s Tom Pidcock is also set to ride, having just won a stage at the Tour of the Alps less than a month after his crash into a ravine at the Volta a Catalunya.
