Carlos Alcaraz takes on Novak Djokovic in a blockbuster clash this afternoon for a place in the French Open final.
With Rafael Nadal missing the tournament through injury, it’s Alcaraz who arrived in Paris as favourite and top seed and he has shown exactly why with a ruthless run to the semi-final.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was swept aside in the last-eight, with Taro Daniel the only man to take a set off the Spaniard so far. Alcaraz won titles in Barcelona and Madrid earlier in the clay-court season and remains firmly on track for his second Grand Slam title, having got off the mark at the US Open last year.
Djokovic though is looking to win one of tennis’ biggest prizes for the 23rd time, an achievement that would take him beyond Nadal and give him the record outright. Should he pick up a third Roland Garros title, the prospect of a calendar Grand Slam becomes a very serious one.
It’s a match that has been hugely anticipated ever since the draw was confirmed, and there is every chance that the pair serve up a repeat of their only previous encounter, when Alcaraz battled to a thrilling semi-final victory in Madrid last year.
