After decades of being held in June—and while the college baseball season was still going on—the MLB draft was shifted to July to be held in conjunction with the All-Star break back in 2021. That timeline has persisted in ’23, with another strong crop of soon-to-be professional players lined up to have their baseball dreams realized.
The 2023 MLB draft will begin on Sunday, July 9 at Lumen Field in Seattle, with the first day covering the first two rounds. Rounds 3-10 will take place on Monday, July 10, and the draft will wrap up with rounds 11-20 on Tuesday, July 11. The Pirates hold the first pick for the second time in three years and the sixth time overall, the most of any franchise.
