Almost every gacha game has some form of expeditions where you send your characters to obtain loot passively. In Destiny: Rising, this feature comes in the form of Iron Commander, where you can get loot from most core activities without doing a thing.
Here’s everything you need to know about Iron Commander in Destiny: Rising, and whether it’s worth using.

How to unlock Iron Commander in Destiny Rising

Iron Commander unlocks around the fifth Chapter. Follow the main story and the Handbook objectives to unlock it alongside other core features. After the campaign, you can unlock bonuses for Iron Commander that shorten the completion times.
How to use Iron Commander in Destiny Rising

Iron Commander has a dedicated node next to Adventure in the activity menu. To dispatch a fireteam, you need one of the three Ops Authorization tokens. You can buy them in the Seasonal Shop for 20 coins each.
Every type of Ops Authorization token is linked to an activity:
- Ops Authorization: Forged Light: Legacy.
- Ops Authorization: Wish Fodder: Morgan’s Prey
- Ops Authorization: Threat Elimination: Strikes and Gauntlet: Blitz

With the right Ops Authorization token, select an activity, and add up to three fireteam members (you’ll still be able to use them). You must have already cleared the activity normally before doing it through Iron Commander, though.
There are three reward tiers for any Iron Commander op. To reach higher tiers, you must meet the fireteam’s cumulative Power requirements. For example, Strikes on Heroic difficulty require a total Power of 160,000 to get the best rewards.

As you progress through the season, you unlock upgrades for the Iron Commander. Every season phase increases the Reward Level, and at the seasonal level 100, the Iron Commander gets its first time upgrade, shortening the ops’ length, with two more upgrades awaiting at level 150 and 200, respectively.
Is it worth using Iron Commander in Destiny Rising?

At the Abundant reward tier, completing activities through Iron Commander offers slightly better rewards than doing them normally. For example, Iron Commander has a chance to drop up to two Exotic and Mythic weapons from the Heroic Strike as opposed to just one.
However, you might want to save your seasonal coins until you’ve purchased everything you need from the Seasonal Shop. This includes Superposed Photons, Ascension Cells, and any other Exotic upgrade materials.
