- To register, you must be aged 16 or over (14 or over in Scotland and Wales) and be a British or Irish citizen, or have permission to reside in the UK, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man.
- The online registration process typically takes about 5 minutes and usually requires a National Insurance number, though you can still register without one.
- Overseas voters, including British citizens and eligible Irish citizens who previously lived in the UK, can also register but must renew their registration every three years.
- Once registered, your name and address will appear on the electoral register, enabling you to vote in elections and referendums, and you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate if you lack photo ID.
- You must register by 11:59pm on 20 April 2026 to vote in the following elections on 7 May 2026: local government elections, Scottish Parliament elections, Senedd Cymru elections, mayoral elections in England.
