How to mark the Coronation in style - best ways to watch and celebrate this weekend

King Charles’ Coronation is just around the corner, and if you want to do something special to celebrate the momentous occasion there are events happening up and down the country this weekend.

From themed dances to musical events to picnic spots to see Westminster Abbey on screen, there is lots for people to enjoy and explore.

Here is our guide to some of the best events about…

North East/Yorkshire

Darlington: A big screen in the marketplace will live stream the ceremony from Westminster Abbey on Saturday and the star-studied Coronation Concert on Sunday.

Live entertainment will include performances from Britain’s Got Talent stars Soldiers of Swing and Discography. (Free)

Harrogate: A three-day party at the Valley Gardens park with fairground rides, market stalls, circus workshops and live music. After watching the coronation live, kid-friendly films will be shown.(Free)

County Durham: Beamish Museum has a 1950s-style celebration on Sunday with a street party and vintage bus rides. (Family tickets from £38.50 at beamish.org.uk)

York: A black tie ball and banquet in honour of the King, hosted by Yorkshire Vice Lord-Lieutenant. Dance to a big band, in the Grand Assembly Rooms at 6.30pm on Sunday. (£55 from tickettailor.com).

Bradford: The Junction Inn & Kitchen are hosting a garden party on Saturday with a bouncy castle, street food, beer, a fancy dress party and face painting (Free)

Sunderland: Dance like it’s 1953 at the Holy Trinity Church to the soundtrack of swing, jazz and more at 11am on Saturday. Guests are encouraged to dress in fifties clobber. (Tickets by donation from Eventbrite.co.uk)

Newcastle: The Big Friendly Coronation Gathering takes place at St George’s Church, Jesmond, on Monday at 2pm. There will be World Champion Irish Dancers, the Black Gate Morris Dancers and the Newcastle Concert Band. Cream teas. (Free)

North West

Oldham: A big festival in the town centre on Saturday, where you can see the coronation on a big screen. Later there will be live acts including cover bands The Threetles, Gladness and Queen II. (Free).

Workington: The Cumbrian town will host a picnic from 11am to 5pm in Vulcan Park on Saturday. The coronation will be screened. There will be market stalls, children’s entertainment, and a crown parade. ( free).

Manchester: The Legoland Discovery Centre has a lego party with cocktails, photo ops, magic and meet and greets on Saturday and Sunday. (£25 from legolanddiscoverycentre.com)

Wigan: There’s a royal-themed scarecrow competition at Haigh Woodland Park on Sunday. You will be provided with a build kit including a timber frame, straw and string, but bring embellishments to make yours the best. (£12 from Eventbrite.co.uk)

Accrington: A gold open-top double-decker bus will lead the official procession on Saturday. There will be a throne to take selfies in The Market Hall, and a town crier will “cry for the king’ all weekend long. (Free)

Timperley: Party in the Car Park is back with a King Charles Coronation Special on Sunday. Live music from 1pm, and kids entertainers all day. A DJ will kick off from 8.30pm. (From £6.13 at Eventbrite.co.uk)

Scotland

Balmoral: On Coronation Day the Scottish home of the Royal Family will feature vintage buses, a falconry display and pipe band performances. (Free)

Edinburgh: Scottish Dancers from around the world will gather at the Coronation Ball at Greyfriars on Saturday 6.30pm. There will be a light hot buffet for when you’re danced-out.(From £52 at rscdsedinburgh.org)

Inverurie: Classic cars how at The Garish Heritage Centre on Friday. Variety Coronation Concert on Saturday night in the Town Hall and tea dance on Sunday. Live music, stalls and mini-fair later. ( free)

Glasgow: The Big Coronation Garden Doo at New Kilpatrick Parish Church on Sunday will feature a picnic, activities and entertainment. Coronation cake competition. (Free)

Aberdeen: In Duthie Park on Sunday the party will include live music from Iron Broo, The Grampian and District Pipes and Drums and The Rock Choir. There will be face painting and more. (Free)

Wales

Cardiff: Cardiff Castle will live-stream the coronation and you can picnic in the grounds. On Sunday live music and entertainment. (Free) Foodies Festival on Monday in Bute Park will feature celeb chefs and Michelin-star food. Scouting For Girls, Toploader and Callum Beattie will perform.(Adult £21 from foodiesfestival.com)

Penarth: Penarth Pier is hosting a fireworks display from 9pm on Saturday.(Free)

Swansea: Mumbles Coronation Street Party on Sunday will have games, fairground rides, food, drink, choirs ... and dinosaurs (Free)

Blaenavon: Forgeside RFC are having a garden party on Sunday with a craft market, garden games, street food, and even yoga. There will be live music into the night.(Free)

Brecon beacons/Bannau Brycheiniog:
Celebrate with the Coronation Mountain Challenge which includes walks and runs organised by Christ College Brecon in the national park on Sunday at 10am. (Entry free from £5 to £27 depending on race at christcollegebrecon.com)

Leicester: Belgrave Hall hosts a family-friendly garden party on Sunday with royal themed arts and crafts with a royal theme. Bring picnic. (£3 per child joining craft activities from Leicestermuseums.org.uk)

Lincoln: Lincoln Castle’s grounds will be dressed in celebratory colours from Saturday to Monday, and there will be lots of space to picnic and enjoy live music and entertainment.

Stoke-on-Trent: Potteries hosting events over the weekend include Wedgwood which has a royal archive tour as well as a day party celebrating the very best of British music culture. People can paint royal themed objects in a decorating studio. (Tickets range in price from worldofwedgwood.com)

Northampton: The Picturedrome is hosting an unofficial Coronation afterparty on Saturday, playing British hits. Party hats, flags, streamers and a confetti cannon.(£7 from boomevents.co.uk)

Ely, Cambridgeshire: Tower of the Lady Chapel at Ely Cathedral will be illuminated red, white and blue all weekend. Inside will be tea parties, flowers and live screening of the coronation. (Free)

South West

Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire: At Woolley Grange Hotel there will be croquet and crown-making workshops at the musical garden party on Saturday. (Children free and Adults £10 from woolleygrangehotel.co.uk)

Salcombe, Devon: There will be a Coronation flotilla with a prize for best dressed boat at 5pm on Saturday as well as free cream teas and a fan dress contest in town. (Free)

St Austell, Cornwall: In the Lost Gardens of Heligan, a women’s sea shanty choir will perform at a garden party with giant Coronation screens on Saturday. A barbecue fayre, pasties and ice cream. (Children free and adult £5 from heligan.com).

Bristol: Coronation to be screened in Bristol and Bath Science park. Numerous venues hosting street parties. Hanham Methodist Church is planting a memorial tree and burying a time capsule on Monday. (Free)

Knights at Chiltern Open Air Museum (DAILY MIRROR)

Shaftesbury, Dorset: Shaftesbury Library has a make your own Royal Coach workshop from 11 am to noon on Saturday. (Free)

Plymouth: The Coronation and Coronation Concert from Windsor will be screened at The Barbican.There will be live music. (Free)

Somerset: The Coronation and concert will be live streamed from Taunton two centre. There will be a comminity stage here local bands and performers will showcase their talents. taking place in Taunton (Free)

South East/Home Counties

Buckinghamshire: The Chiltern Open Air Museum hosts mediaeval jousting with armoured knights on Sunday and Monday. (Adult £10.50, kids £7.50 from coam.org.uk).

Kent: At Winston Churchill’s home, Chartwell, there will be a brass band and croquet on the lawn on Saturday. (Adult £20,

Legoland’s royal crown (DAILY MIRROR)

Isle of Wight: Celebrate Britain’s big day on the Isle of Wight steam railway. Travel like royalty in the Edwardian carriages, then relax at the station to watch the coronation on a big screen. (Adult £19.50, Child £8.25 from iwsteamrailway.co.uk)

Guildford: Toast to the new King and Queen at High Clandon Vineyard in Surrey, and try British wines at the Coronation Celebration Open Day on Monday. (Free entry but wine tasting cost £25.00 from highclandon.co.uk)

Essex: The University of Essex hosts a picnic at Wivenhoe campus on Sunday. It will give out 1,000 free royal tea boxes.

London

London Eye: The London Eye, will deck out a space-age glass pod in the style of Westminster Abbey on coronation day, so you can travel slowly over London like a King or Queen. (£60 from Londoneye.com)

Tower Bridge: Get crafty for the King with a crown-making workshop, before exploring the landmark while wearing your new colourful accessory. (Included with entry ticket from towerbridge.org.uk)

Madame Tussauds: Meet King Charles and Queen Camilla in person... well kind of. The royal couple are at the wax museum and you can have a spot of royal tea at the recreated Buckingham Palace. (From £36 at madametussauds.com)

Greenwich: Contribute to the pop-up “Radio Coronation” short-wave station by taking the mic to help
broadcast 14,000 celebratory messages on its 80ft masts to radio enthusiasts across the world. The fun event lasts from Thursday to Monday. In the Old Royal Naval College gardens. (Free)

Bus Tour: Hop on a red London bus and travel around the city to see some famous landmarks and enjoy afternoon tea. Brigit’s Bakery Bus will drive past major sites including Big Ben and The Royal Albert Hall while serving sandwiches, biscuits,
