How to find and open Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant

Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant provide rare resources. And while you can come across these resources elsewhere, it’s worth opening a few Encrypted Vaults if you have Code Analyzers or Code Breakers to spare.

Here’s where you can find Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant and how to open them to get resources or complete related quests.

Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant are coffin-looking statues that spawn in base zones, such as Vespers and Echo Swamp. Every Encrypted Vault is marked with a circle icon on the map once you load into any zone. There are three types of Encrypted Vaults: regular (white), precise (blue), and ultraprecise (purple). The higher the rarity, the more materials it drops.

There are no known Encrypted Vault locations in Kingston, while Sterile Land has them only in the Classified Area region.

How to open Encrypted Vaults in The First Descendant

To open an Encrypted Vault in the Normal-difficulty zone, you need a Code Analyzer. However, to open an Encrypted Vault in the Hard-difficulty zone, you need a Code Breaker. Both drop from monsters in any zone at their respective difficulties.

To change the zone’s difficulty, open the map and switch it in the top-left corner. After changing the difficulty, reload into the zone using any fast travel point.

Code Analyzers and Code Breakers also come in different rarities to match the three Encrypted Vault types. Here are all types of Code Analyzers and Code Breakers and which Encrypted Vaults you can open with them:

Once you have the right Analyzer/Breaker, interact with the Encrypted Vault to start a hacking minigame. Press the right button when the arrow goes through the green area, then rinse and repeat until the Vault opens.

To make the minigame easier, especially for Ultra-precision Encrypted Vaults, use Enzo or Nell to open them. Both Descendants have a passive that increases efficiency and rewards when opening Encrypted Vaults.

The materials you get from Encrypted Vaults depend on the zone. There’s one material per zone, so if you need something specific, travel to the right zone, as the Vault’s type/rarity only increases the amount of materials you get.
