The Fabric Decision Is the Only Decision That Matters
Every other choice, colour, silhouette, print, sits on top of fabric. Get the fabric wrong and nothing else can save the outfit. For most of the country, most of the year, the answer is cotton. Single-jersey cotton, mulmul, and khadi cotton all allow sweat to evaporate rather than trap it against the skin. Synthetic blends, polyester-cotton mixes sold as "easy care", feel fine in an air-conditioned store and become a damp second skin within twenty minutes outside. For kids under five, whose sweat glands are still regulating, this is not a style problem. It is a heat rash problem.
