Every household with a set of silver cutlery knows the drill. The forks and spoons come out for a wedding, a festival, or a dinner with the in-laws, and half of them have gone a dull, blotchy grey-black. Someone reaches for a tub of silver polish and a soft cloth, and twenty minutes of elbow grease later, the shine is back, mostly.
There's a faster way, and it doesn't involve any scrubbing at all. It uses kitchen staples most people already have: a sheet of aluminium foil, some baking soda, salt, and a pot of hot water. Line a container with the foil, dissolve the baking soda and salt in the water, drop the cutlery in so it touches the foil, and wait. Within a few minutes, the tarnish lifts away on its own.
